Preface
The 310th Infantry as was the whole of the 78th Division a reserve Division and didn’t move into combat zones until September 1918. There is no history of the 310th that I could find to reference but an excellent and entertaining read is the history of the 311 Infantry Company B written by Captain Benjamin Allison Colonna. This provides some really good insight into the experiences of the men of the 78th Division.

The tow had previously been entered by the 77th Division, but it was
not until October 23d, after days of severe fighting, that the entire

Grand-Pre, was captured, and the southern part of the Bois de Bourgogne was entered. The Bois des Loges was penetrated in the initial attack, but artillery fire fron the northeast, and from the Bois de Bourgogne, and flanking machine gun fire fronm Champigneulle and Bellejoyeuse Farm caused, such heavy casualties”3 - 5 November “The division less the.artillery and amlunition train, was relieved by the 42d Division on November 5, and moved south to the area near St. Menehould ”
