K comments: WW1. Arthur’s cousin Archer served in WW1 with the West Yorks.

WW2: Cousin John Kenneth Blencoe was killed in a flying accident in 1941. Cousins Dorothy served with RAF in WW2 and  Charles Dennis served as a Chaplain with the RAF. Cousin Arthur Kitchener Blencoe 1908 was to be one of the Blencowe’s longest-serving soldiers serving with the 2nd and 4th Bn East Yorkshire Regiment

Spouse comments: Lily-Rose Swannack 1897-1966. Born in 1897 in Lambeth, London, England. She died in 1966 at age of 69 years in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

A Times article (and other national papers) indicates Arthur enlisted just after his marriage date, i.e., early April 1918 (confirm by No 208661 enlisting 6 Apr 1918).

Even though he enlisted late in the war he must have served overseas as he is awarded medals. While originally the RGA was intended to serve the fortresses and port defences of Britain they were deployed en masse to the Western Front, Salonika, etc. where a wide range of gun sizes (6″ to 14″ bore) was deployed some mounted on trains of enormous 14″ Guns.

MEDALS

Arthur was awarded British and Victory medals and consequently, we know that on joining the RGA in April 1918 he was sent overseas to serve.
