Blencoe Walter Lyle ‘Bud’, US Army 2nd Infantry, 34th Infantry Division?

1917

Draft card June 1917 and record of post-war veterans bonus the only online records so far found of Walter’s war service. It is assumed that he was drafted into a local Army unit and maybe, as did first cousin Claude Blencoe, joined the Minnesota 2nd Infantry.

  • 26th Aug. The 34th Division at Camp Cody, New Mexico.
1918

Walter was likely with the 2nd Minnesota Infantry Coy E which was the hometown (Fairmont Minn.) infantry company.

This unit was part of the 34th Infantry Division that went to Europe. The 34th Division arrived in France in October 1918 but it was too late for the division to be sent to the front, as hostilities were ending; an armistice was signed the following month.
