  • Joined the 2nd Hampshire Regiment, Sent almost at once to South Africa to serve with his regiment in the Boer War.
  • London Times – Dateline Albert Docks, April 26 1900. Two ships sailed from here today, the Englishman and the Montfort, carrying a total of 27 officers, 895 men and 634 horses.” Amongst the troops E.P. Blencowe and 166 men reporting to him.
  • London Times 25 Dec 1901 The hospital ship Dunera left for England December 25 with the following invalids: 2nd Bn. Hampshire – 2/Lt. E.P. Blencowe
  • Campaigns included Pretoria, Quagga Kop, the siege of Ladysmith, General Buller’s headquarters, a Boer prisoner-of-war camp and much more besides. Edward seems to have transferred to the Army Service Corp in South Africa and his medals for the South African Campaign delineated by Harts 1908 Army List.

Seconded to the Egyptian Army. During that time he was sent on an expedition to take supplies from Khartoum to the border of Sudan, a perilous journey. Recorded in Harts Army List 1908 as serving from 17th Feb. 1900 as a Captain Hampshire Regiment attached to the Egyptian army.

Some help from Great war forum members its seems this was an unidentified Officer 34 of the ASC . This comparison in my mind clinches it.
