- 21st Jan. Enlisted as a Territorial with the 3/13th Battalion at Kensington, home address 36 Elyston St Chelsea. Occupation Warehouse Porter.
Walter may have been in one of these recruiting assemblies on Richmond Park. Source Richmond Park Blog. Taken in March 1915, the back of the photo has the note ‘Chummy on Point Duty’. We do not know who Chummy was. Presumably, he is one of the men in suits waiting to be turned into soldiers, proud and excited at having volunteered.
1916
- 14th Mar. After serving in the Reserves for 1 year and 53 days, Walter is discharged KR 392 xvi (physically unfit for service). Medical records show he was suffering from Oxaluria a genetic or hereditary disease.
