Thankyou
This page owes a great deal to the efforts of Stewarts grandson Edward Blinco who has collected and created an excellent family tree and photo album. Recounting from his elderly father stories from WW1 provided evidence that have allowed me to document more of his war experience specifically his time in the Atlantic Islands of the Azores. It was at this time he was taking part in essential salvage work that made this area of the Atlantic safe for merchant shipping.

- 14th May. Naval Training Station Great Lakes Ill.
By coincidence Frank Horace Blincoe Radio Electrician Cl 3, 112184224, US Navy. was at the Great Lakes Training school in 1918 and in May-June, their time there overlapped. - 29th Jul. Naval Rifle Range Camp Logan Ill.
- 18th Aug. Naval Rifle Range Camp Caldwell N. J.
Note it appears after training Stewart was to serve on ships in the Atlantic as the following 1919 incident reports.

It appears that Stewart was posted to the Azores off the coast of Portugal where the US were permitted to create two Naval bases in WW1. Source for this Grandson Ed Blinco in his Ancestry tree refers to 12 Dec 1919 Azores

Ed Blinco also was able to send me his father’s Victory medal which bears the Salvage Clasp further supporting that at some point when they were recovering salvage his ship hit a mine.
