Working for a Fresh Food and Ice Cream company and is kicked by a Horse

Singleton Argus Tuesday 16 February 1909

A saddled horse, owned by a butcher, “ran amok” in Darling Point road, Sydney, on Friday, and savagely attacked a boy, afterwards chasing a passing horse and buggy in a vicious way. George Blinco jun., who lives in Little Albion-street, Surry Hills, was the most seriously injured. He is employed by the Fresh Food and Ice Co.. and was out delivering orders. He pulled up in front of the residence of Mr Justice Coben, and when walking past the horse, which he alleges, was left untied on the side of the road, the animal lashed out. and kicked him on the right knee. The blow knocked him down, and as he lay on the ground the horse made several other kicks, which, fortunately, passed over him. Just at this time an elderly man “was driving past in a buggy, and the infuriated horse turned its attention to it. Galloping up to the side of tho horse drawing the buggy, the animal made several wild kicks at it. but the driver was able to beat the maddened horse off. Subsequently, the animal was captured without farther damage being done. The boy Blinco was taken to St. Vintent’s Hospital, where his injured leg will be put under the X-rays, on account of the stiffness and swelling that has followed the kick.”

Australia followed Gt Britain in the award of this stripe  Introduced on 9 August 1916 (Army Order No.204) the wounded stripe was to be worn by all officers and soldiers who had been wounded in any of the campaigns since 4 August 1914. The distinction was a strip of gold Russia No.1 braid, two inches in length, sewn perpendicularly on the left forearm sleeve of the service dress jacket. Each stripe indicated a single occasion of being wounded, subsequent stripes being placed on either side of the original at half inch intervals.
