Synopsis

Troy Blinco was a gifted sportsman who was well school at the prestigous Bishops College in Montreal and was a draughtsman before enlisting in the CEF in 1917. As an Engineer and then a member of the RAF he didn’t leave Canada during the war. He took his technical skills to back to home town Grand Mere QUE. and work for the rest of his life in the engineering operations of the Pulp and Paper Industry. A local champion tennis player in the 1920s a keen Golf player later, he was a active Boy Scout, Church leader for all his long life.  He was a celebrity in the small town of Grand Mere as the many local newspaper articles about him and his family attest. he died age 90 and was buried with his ancestors in Elora Ontario.

  • 1st Sept. Enlisted with CEF in Montreal, Occupation Draughtsman.
  • 10th Nov. Appointed Lance Corporal at the Canadian Engineers Training Depot.
1918
  • 8th Mar. Discharged to enable joining the Royal Flying Corps, likely as a technician or engineer working on the aeroplanes. Note there was no Canadian Air Force at this time.

  • 18th Sept. Transferred to Canadian RAF to the 44th Wing at Camp Borden Ontario.
  • 8th Oct. Posted to 87 Canadian Training Squadron at Deseronto.
    Repair of “pranged” aircraft in the Training depots seems to have been a regular occurrence.

  • 9th Oct. Orders appear to have been changed the next day and re-instated to 44th Wing at Camp Borden Ontario.
  • 28th Dec. Discharged surplus to requirements. On discharge granted Honorary Commission.
