Synopsis

Edwards’s veteran headstone gives a clue to his war service. It states Missouri in the first line, he wasn’t born or died there so I interpret this to mean USS Missouri was a a Maine-class battleship that was a 10yr old ship taken out of moth balls and put back into service in 1917. Primarily used to ferry troops to and from Europe in the war years. His rank was

Yeoman Seaman Class 3, which is equivalent to E-3. Yeoman perform administrative and clerical tasks,

Could have been eligible for the US Victory Medal and Kansas Service medal but no evidence to support this.

Edward possibly awarded the US Victory medal with a Naval Clasp such as Atlantic Fleet .

Note: Eligibility for Victory medal served 6 April 1917 to 11 November 1918 for any military service.
