Blincoe Homer R. 2575376 US Army, Naval Surgeon, US Navy.
We have three pieces of evidence to substantiate that he was a WW1 Veteran.
- Veterans record that shows he was issued a Army Serial Number.
- The Claim form for a Kansas State War Bounty. An example of the Discharge form is shown in Gallery below. This proves he submitted Army discharge papers (likely from some time served possibly at Emory Institute)
- His Seamans passport from US Navy in 1922. see gallery
Note: The ‘Emory Unit’ from the Atlanta School of Medicine organized in 1917 by Lieutenant Colonel Edward C. Davis, Emory Unit Base No. 43 shipped out for France to aid the allies in World War I. The unit served for six months in the American Expeditionary Force and, during and after the war, its doctors were an especially valuable asset to soldiers wounded by gas. The Emory No. 43 Unit, including new and former members, served in a similar capacity in World War II. There is a good history of Unit 43 attached to this page it contains all the names of the Doctors, Nurses and enlisted men in this unit but Homer does not appear in it.

1918-1920
- In this period Homer likely moved from Tulane University to Army service (possibly at Emory Institute as a medical assistant ) and after 1918 returned to studies.

1922
- It seems after graduating Homer first joined the US Navy as in this year age at 32 his Seaman’s Passport is issued. The document listed below does not indicate his rank or role in the Navy but we can assume because of rapid rise later he was a Navy Surgeon.

1925 Chair of Anatomy Atlanta School of Medicine.

1925
Homer “Butch” Blincoe began a 21-year “reign of terror” as chair of anatomy. His intolerance of lack of mastery of his subject was legendary among the students. One former student said that when he was in a foxhole during WWII, he took comfort in the fact that at least it wasn’t Blincoe’s anatomy class.
