1915
- 23rd Aug. Enlisted in the 187th Brigade (Fulham) Royal Field Artillery Gunner. The address was given as 9 Ely Place, Clapham. Occupation Labourer.
1916
- 1st May. Posted to France, embarked Southampton disembarked Le Havre on the 2nd May 1916. It seems Edwin didn’t see action in France his stay was just 4 months and in that time. His Brigade was with the 41st Division and part of the Fifth New Army, (K5 had completed its move to France by 6th May 1916). All units were concentrated near Steenwerck, and the Division began familiarisation with trench warfare in Ploegsteert and the Douve valley, south of Ypres, where it remained until August 1916.
- 25th Aug. Just before his Bde. was posted to the front, Edwin was admitted to hospital with a hernia to No 12 General at Rouen.
- 11th Sept. Invalided to England.
- 12th Sept. Edwin was subsequently posted to 56 Reserve Brigade.
- 23 Sept. He was returned to Rouen France.
- 3rd Dec. Posted No 7 Depot.
1917
- 25th Jan.Posted to 56 Reserve Brigade.
- 9th Mar. Posted to Mesopotamia (Iraq), Embarkation 10th Mar 1917 Devonport arrived Magil 24th May 1917. Ships SS Port Melbourne and Edvana.

- 5th Jun..Admitted to British General Hospital at Makina with Dysentery invalided to India 19th Jun 1917, Hospital Ship Erinpura 20th Jun 1917 Basrah.
- 27th Oct. Rejoined RA Depot 27.
- 25th Dec. Invalided to the UK.
- 19th Jun. Posted RA Depot Jabbulpore India.
1918
- 8th May.
Telegram from Simla, Edwin is dangerously ill suffering from Nephritis and Pneumonia.
- 1st Aug. Invalided to the UK. Admitted Catterick Military Hospital 1918 E Blinko 35 no. 40477 gunner Ra & Tc (Rfa) 1 1918 to Catterick Military Hospital discharged 4.2.1919 suffering Myalgia (931) no of days treatment 13
- 27th Nov. Edwin posted to the Royal Artillery and Tank Corps Command Depot. Catterick, Yorkshire. Command Depots were intended for the rehabilitative training of soldiers too fit for convalescent camp, but not yet fit enough to be returned to the unit.
1919
- 4th Feb. Discharged and awarded the Silver War Badge.
