It seems Archer played an important role in WW2 because most likely his civilian responsibilities for Shipbuilding in Hull at . “Hull was rarely referred to by name during the Second World War. Instead, reports of raids were said to have taken place in a ‘north-east town’ in an attempt to protect the identity of the City and play down the devastation wreaked on the population by the Luftwaffe. Hull was subject to 86 raids; the first, June 19th/20th 1940, and the last March 17th 1945 and most records created during 1939-1945 will contain information relating to the war.”3 The Shipbuilding capability and its closer proximity to German airfields made for a very strategic target for the enemy.
