Sometime between 1881 and 1891, the family moved to Kidderminster father William was still a baker at the 1891 census. Father’s brother John William was living in Keidermnster and may have influenced this move.

- October. Volunteered to join the Red Cross in Worcestershire she was living at 21 Northumberland Avenue, Kidderminster
- Initially, Rose was posted to The “Beeches” Selly Oak Rd Bournville nr Birmingham which treated facial injuries and was known as Vad 22 Hospital.
- At some point, in this two-year period, Rose was then transferred to a small Red Cross hospital at The Larches in Kidderminster. In Kidderminster, The Larches was used as a hospital from May 1915 until April 1919. It was staffed by members of the Red Cross detachments of Kidderminster, Bewdley, and Wolverley, under Miss Marion Tomkinson, who was commandant for the entire period of operation, and Miss Stratton as Matron from 1915 to 1918. With a maximum of 100 beds, it treated a total of 2278 in-patients as well as out-patients.

- Rose was posted to a Convalescence Hospital at Hartlebury Castle. Worcs. This Hospital was home to some rather famous VAD nurses including Amelia Earhart and Agatha Christie.
- In total, Rose volunteered to work 2200 hours for free at her nursing job during the war
