  • 19th Jan. Enlisted in US Army and was detached to the Army Flying School to train as a pilot? This was likely at the Brooks Flying School in Texas. Here Elmer was trained on the aircraft that was used for training the  Curtiss ‘Jenny’

  • The veteran’s card does not indicate whether or not Elmers saw Service overseas it unlikely though as whatever role he was training for at the Flying School Detachment the training period was lengthy and the opportunity to join the war limited by the time he was qualified
