Synopsis
Robert was a Carpenter and house Builder by trade and became a Clerk of Works Buildings with the London Conty Council and thus was probably enlisted to be involved in construction of Army Camp buildings , the fact that he appears to have earned no war medals suggests his time with four different regiments was to do the same Clerk of Works role he had in Civilian life , the Sergeant ranks supports the skill grading of him and not a combat role. He war already 44 by the time he enlisted and 47 when eventually his fitness was B2 and his discharge from the Army in 1919 a logical move.
