George lies about his age presumably to enlist at the age of 18 so from this assume he joined the Navy in April-May 1917. Given time for training etc George would have likely seen service in 1918. we know from his medal award record that he served offshore in a war zone.

We have no evidence but it’s possible (given its size) that George was in Britain’s largest sea battle of the war the 31st May Battle of Jutland.

It’s likely that George was retained longer and served into the period 1919-20 as he had joined relatively later in the war. Coalville and followed his father down the coal mines which the 1939 census attests.
