WW1
Lieutenant Colonel Army HQ Staff
Note
Its not clear if Richard served in WW1 the army listings are indicating he may have had a Staff position. There are no medals awarded but if he served just at Army Headquarters in England he was entitled to any. The fact that in 1919 he was awarded the CBE suggests that his role in WW1 was being recognised.
Before the outbreak of war Richard was retired from the Army, however the 1916 Army list lists him underLieut-Colonel’s retired with pay and a his designation of Staff . It also shows 13 August 1913 as the start date for that role. It appears then he was acting in a staff role in at least the period 1913-1916
