Graham Dudley ‘George’ Driver, Lieutenant, 23rd Royal Fusiliers, Royal Army Service Corps

1914

• • September.We have no record of Graham’s enlistment but month is confirmed by Stock Exchange memorial. He was a natural candidate for the “Sportsman” Battalion the 23rd Royal Fusiliers. The Battalion was made up of men with sporting attributes and also men from varying backgrounds. The medal card shows he was a Private with the 23rd Royal Fusiliers.

    

  • The Battalion were based at Hornchurch where they undertook basis training . Graham probably early on earmarked for Officer training , thus in March 1915 commisioned and transferred to ASC

• • • March Graham is offered an Officer post of Lieutenant with the Army Services Corps. The medal card has no qualifying medals for his service inscribed and it also states no evidence of overseas service.
    • 5 May. After suffering a tick born disease spotted fever develops and Graham dies of its complications.

Death 5th May 1915

Grahams’ Soldier Effects record indecipherable for place of death but likely somewhere in London. His ashes were scattered at Golders Green Crematorium as stated above but to the location of his illness and death haven’t found this record.soldiers-effects-
