1914
  • Louis probably volunteered for the Territorial Army in 1914 or before the war. In any event, he joined the Territorial Army battalion 2/7th Battalion Middlesex Regt.
1915
  • 2 February, The 2/7 Ben left the 67th Division and moved to Gibraltar arrived 07.02.1915.
  • Aug. The 2/7 Bn mobilised and moved to Alexandria, Egypt, arrived 31.08.1915. Where they served as part of the Western Frontier Force in order to respond to the Senussi uprising and were involved in the action at the Battle of Agagia, and re-captured lost Egyptian territory.

1916-1919
  • May. At this point the 2/7th were sent to France but Louis was not and may have been discharged. It’s possible his German father was problematic for him to enter that combat zone. He obviously was well respected and his loyalty not in doubt as only 3 months later he was to join the Army Services Corps.
  • 16 August. Re-enlisted in the Army Services Corps based in Egypt
  • Its not known which unit of the ASC Louis was with buthe served out his time in the war with the RASC as it was renamed. He was a Sergeant at discharge indicating his creditable for service
