Formed in 1917 the WAAC was organised to fill a number of support roles bout in the UK and abroad. The women were paid depending on the type of work they were doing. Shorthand typists could get 45 shillings a week and those members doing unskilled labour were paid 24 shillings a week.
The uniform below, note unlike later women’s services did not have ranks as per the Army.
We have no records to show where and when Elizabeth served in WW1 with the WAAC but their duties were varied as these two photos show the first of WAAC’s doing some vehicle maintenance and the second drilling as per normal Army induction training.

Some WAACs were sent abroad as in this photo below of a group in Etaples at recreation. Etaples was a major hospital base and so many supporting roles were played by the WAAC.
