  • 9 November. Arthur attested and placed into Labour pool is a skill as a bricklayer was assure him of a role in that capacity.
  • 6 December. Embarked from Southampton for France disembarked on 6 December
  • Posted to No 30 Labour Coy Le Havre, which at this time was part of the Army Service Corps and a works company that fitted with Arthur’s bricklaying skills.

A map of Le Havre port from 1914 shows the many army rest camps in the town, there were beside Hospitals, a major railway centre and numerous depot bases that required new building etc and so Arthur gainfully employed while here.

  • 10 August. Arthur gets 10 days leave to England.
1917
  • 21 January. Transferred to No 24 Labour Company in Boulogne.
  • 19 July. Transferred to the Royal Engineers the 1501st Artisan Works Company based in boulogne

  • 5 March. Transferred to 40th Artizan Company
  • 6 March, Transferred to the 240th Artizan Works Company
